omg I'm like super bored and fictionpress is taking so damn long to load i shall just blog abt hongkong even though I don't feel like doing so. BEFORE Spent quite some time trawling the internet looking for good shopping areas and seeing what other tourists said about Hong Kong. Also visited the HK tourism website, which was quite useful, and booked air tickets + hotel room from Zuji, as well as disneyland entrance passes from the disneyland website. DAY 1 We took CX710 Cathay Pacific's 7.05am flight. Slept horribly the previous night and had somewhat of a sore throat, so wasn't feeling too well :/ Plus my parents were being horrible and my mom was totally pmsing and snapping my head off and stuff and I forgot to bring my handphone. Ugh. But even though it got off to a not-so-great start, we had no problems checking in and whatever and I was quite optimistic about everything. I was wearing my dark green geometrically patterned shirt-dress with jeans, and my white sweater. The flight wasn't bad. I had an omelette with sausage and mushrooms, and watched an episode of Ugly Betty. We landed at about 12 and proceeded to the Hotellink service which provides buses to all the major hotels. You can find out which hotels exactly by googling "Hong Kong airport" and checking the transportation and following the link to the website. Taking a taxi from the airport works as well but people say that taxis are very expensive in Hong Kong. If you do use the hotellink service, you might have to wait as our bus left around 10 or 15 minutes late. It's comfortable and roomy in the bus, though. We stayed at Royal Plaza Hotel, which is 5 stars and located in Kowloon. Google to find out more, but basically it's on top of the KCR Edward Station, and approximately 10 minutes walk from MTR Mongkok Station, and connected to a huge shopping mall called Grand Century Place. I wouldn't bother too much with the KCR if I were you, the MTR is very convenient and you can access most places by it. Anyway, we checked in and decided to go out to eat/explore. We went out by the place the bus had driven in, which was a mistake, because it was quite deserted and there wasn't much around, save for a few shops and flower stalls. We ended up eating at some Royal Cafe, which didn't really look very appealing, but there wasn't much choice, because we were in the wrong place. We then walked on further and further and finally stumbled upon Mongkok MTR and a good shopping area, Argyle Street. On Argle street is Argyle centre, a small complex squeezed full of bargains for women- fashionable clothes, shoes, boots, lots of socks and hoisery, as well as accessories. The products being sold can get somewhat repititive though, with products more or less the same but with slight variations, so look around all the shops before you decide to buy anything. Prices are more or less fixed- some accessory shops charge HK$20 for all products, and shoe prices start at about HK$100. It's quite a bargain, and I would definitely recommend checking out Argyle Centre and Arglye Street. You can get to it from one of the exits from Mongkok MTR (Check the signboard). I bought a pair of shoes for HK$80 and black leggings for HK$35. For dinner, we ate at some Aberdeen restaurant which is apparently quite famous for it's noodles. Then we went back and I went to sleep by 10 pm, was that tired(: DAY 2 Woke up at 8.30 am by morning call, plodded around a bit, put on my contacts and changed from my long johns into my giordano pink trousers and bossini top(: Then we went to enquire about the route to the MTR and realised we had walked wrongly the other night =/ The way to go is actually the exit near the lifts, where you walk directly into Grand Century Place. From there you can just look at the signs near the ceiling, there's a symbol with a red background that represents the MTR. Alternatively, just stop by the information desk or help desk and ask(: It's a rather long walk on something like an overhead bridge, but the air is relatively cool and it is rather enjoyable. So once we were at Mongkok MTR, we bought Octopus cards which cost HK$150 per person. HK$100 is for taking MTR rides and HK$50 is in the stored value of the card, but before you go back to your country you can get a full refund for the amount left unused in the card, excluding HK$7 handling fee. I'd recommend getting it- you don't have to buy single tickets whenever you want to use the MTR. We went to causeway bay, which we heard is a good shopping area, but then didn't quite know where to go, so we tried these places called causeway bay plaza phase 1 and 2. They're quite small shopping areas, with mainly food and not that much shopping actually. We ate brunch in Phase 1, at a restaurant called Xiao Fei Yang, which translated to English means little fat sheep/goat. It's a dim sum restaurant, and we ordered the set meal for HK$35, which gives us two dim sum, one main dish, one vegetable dish and one dessert dish each. There was a lot of food, and we couldn't quite finish it =X But I'd say it's not bad. After that we walked around a little more and came to Sogo, a Japanese department store with a lot of shops and international brands inside. Apart from that, there is also some funky fashionable clothing. I bought shoes from Skechers, an American brand, that was discounted and came up to HK$399, from the original price of HK$499. Walking around a little more also showed us a few other shopping centres, although I can't quite remember their names. We did sit down at a little dessert cafe and order hot desserts that was delicious. Mine was some sesame connoction with small pearls, and it tasted wonderful. Just the perfect thing on a cold day. The consistency was just right- not too thick, not too thin, and it didn't have a grainy sesame touch, although the sesame fragrance did come out rather splendidly. (: After that we took the MTR to Wan Chai, where there is some street market style shopping, which is the most low-end of the bunch. Apparently some parts of Wan Chai are red-light districts, but I don't quite know about that. We walked out of the MTR, looked around, and saw this marketway where it was like a watered-down version of Ladies Market. Less variety, less colourful, but also less expensive. You can buy things like bags, basic clothing, fruits and various goods there. We had a rest at KFC, which by the way sells good portugese egg tarts for HK$55, then we decided to go back to Mongkok and check out Ladies' Market, also known as Tung Choi Street or better known as Loi Yan Gai. Most things sold there don't really have a fixed price, and shop owners will size you up before quoting you a price. As a rule, when you are bargaining, don't be worried to slash off half the price you are quoted. Their profit margins are very high. Similar to Argyle street, you may encounter two or more shops selling similar products so do make sure to walk around and compare prices before you buy anything. Prices may differ about HK$10 or more. Often, when you think that a shop keeper is trying to rip you off, just tell him/her that it is too expensive and pretend to walk away. 99% of the time, the shop keeper will immediately hold you back and tell you you can have it for cheaper. Ladies Street sells clothes, shoes, bags, mirrors, socks, tourist-y type items and other goods. I bought boots for HK$150 and a bag for HK$150, and we had dinner at a nearby Shanghainese restaurant. We ordered the set meal for 2, which comprised of sweet and sour soup, sauteed prawns, vegetables, noodles, and drinks. Again, the proportions were epic xD Then we went back to the hotel and reached there at about 9 plus. After my bath, I turned on the television and after a while of figuring how to work it, I went to the movie channel and realised that they were in the midst of screening Legally Blonde! Haha. A perfectly good chick flick(: So I enjoyed it until around 12, when it ended, and went to sleep(: DAY 3 We woke up at 10 plus and did the necessaries, changed into my this fashion jeans, brown juicy top, FOREVER 21 LEATHER JACKET(yeah baby yeah) and put on my new skechers which matched by top and transferred my stuff to my new blue bag which matched my jeans(: We went to a restaurant in Grand Century Place to have lunch. It was called sth like Azakoboza? Haha idk. It was a Japansese restuarant, and I had a cheeseburger (which is by the way a delicious beef patty wrapped in cheese- yum) and wild mushroom ricecakes, which were delicious as well. We walked around Grand Century Place -it has over 600 shops- and I bought a pair of black skinny trousers, stretch fit size 26 from Bossini xD But I got bored pretty quickly cos that shopping mall had more of the high end stuff, so we ended up going back to the hotel and resting for a while before going to take the MTR to this place called Granville Road. I, uh, forgot the MTR station xD But anyway, it's pretty far from the MTR station to Granville road, so just walk along and keep your eyes peeled for road signs. It's kind of like Argyle street, but the things they sell are different, although they fall in the same category of shoes, boots, clothing, etc. I bought another pair of black boots (velvetish this time, the other one was shiny PVC material) for HK$100. Yay. Then we went back to Argyle Centre for another round of shopping- that's how good it was, lmao. This time I just walked away with a faux leather hairband for just HK$10. We ate at the restaurant, The Spaghetti House, at the basement of Argyle Centre, and the food was quite food, if a little too gelard. Heh, they piled on too much cheese. Me and my mother ordered two sets- pumpkin soup, which was delicious, then one lasagne and one potato gratin with pasta, and then drinks. The atmosphere wasn't bad, although the service wasn't as good as it could have been. After that we went back to the hotel and I went to bathed and after that switched on the TV. Guess what! They were showing 2 Weeks Notice! Omg lovely rom-com again! (: Yeah so I watched until ard 12 and went to bed. DAY 4 I wake at slightly past 8 with a horrible throat. So horrible that in fact, I cannot talk at all. My voice is gone T_T I overdose on redoxon and strepsils (just kidding) and changed into my pink pants and long sleeved white top with a striped red hoodie that I bought from Taiwan when I was there last time at this time of the year(: Okay then we went to Grand Century Place to eat breakfast at Fairwoods which serves nice fast and reasonably priced food. Sandwiches, porridge, noodles, etc. I had stock fish and peanut congee, which was tasty. Then we went to get some sweets for me to suck on at Mannings and it was off to Disneyland! :D You can get there by MTR, it's very easy. Just change a few trains, depending on where you come from, no need to switch mode of transportation or anything. It took us only about half an hour to reach disneyland from our hotel. The train to disneyland itself is specially designed and has mickey mouse shaped windows. Kawaii!(: We booked our disneyland tickets online, as I mentioned earlier, via their official website, but you can purchase them on the spot too, for about HK$250, but I'm not sure of the exact price. Disneyland is seperated into 4 segments, Main Street USA, Fantasyland, and two others that I can't quite remember =/ There are a lot of shops around to buy souveniers from, and I got a Mickey Mouse ears hairband, which I've been wanting for ages(: The four shows are fun and definitely worth watching, but I must say, although the place has a nice and magical air to it, the rides are much tamer compared to the USA's Disneyland and not as exciting and thrilling. But still, it was fun, no doubt. But then as we were going back my some dust got into my contact lens so it was a not enjoyable ride back to the hotel. I went back to the hotel, and mom went to buy dinner while I took pictures in the toilet again xD then took out my contacts and went to watch TV. Bride and Prejudice was showing! Lovely movie(: Bride, not Pride. And we ate Mac's and Delifrance and the next movie that came up was I Am Sam which while good, is rather depressing. I watched a bit of it and went to sleep, head hurting, sneezing and sniffing, (without a bath). DAY 5 I awoke at 10plus, throat not fully healed but feeling quite okay (luckily), downed redoxon, got changed into my white "crisps" shirt from Bugis that apparently makes no sense to gwenxD and jeans. Lazed around in bed while mom packed the luggage xD We went to the same Japanese restaurant that we had been to for breakfast (ordered salmon this time and it took ages to come) and we went to check out. We had to make a couple of international calls using the hotel's phone because as mentioned earlier, I forgot to bring my handphone, and it was very expensive. HK$140 for 5 minutes of talktime to Singapore. But anyway. We waited for the Hotellink coach we had booked earlier with the concierge to arrive, and got on at about 1 pm. It stopped some other hotels around the area, then brought us to our respective airline check in places. We checked in at Cathay Pacific, but apparently we were one of the later ones to do so, and didn't get seats together. Then we went to have a bite at Fairwood's again, tried their chicken rice which was $HK35 but large-portioned and very salty. Then we went to the washroom and to check in. The queues at the immigration move really slowly. Sucks. So we were very nearly late and had to rush all the way and even then we boarded on the last call. Whew. I sat in between this caucasian business man and a German lady who looked like a backpacker and was on a transition flight, so she said. Spent my time watching Harry Potter(the latest one-finally!) and a bit of Just For Laughs, and trying to fall asleep. Dinner was steamed chicken or something. The sauce was slightly goopy, but apart from that it was okay. I ate half of the ice cream(: So yeah. Went to collect our luggage, realised dad was actually at the airport waiting for us! And thus concludes our Hongkong trip. Well. Something to note about Hong Kong : Most people speak Cantonese. They can hardly speak English/Chinese, except those in the tourist industry. I hope someone finds this and finds it interesting. >:( Hong Kong shopping.
